Dealing with Stress Work & Motherhood

The children are tired (and so are we parents), do not feel like getting up, having breakfast, getting dressed and going out of the house. By the time everyone is halfway dressed and equipped with all the utensils that are important for the day, such as rucksacks, snacks, etc., you are sometimes already exhausted … and arrive at work quite stressed.

Start the day more relaxed – with focused teeth brushing

With a very banal exercise you can start the day relaxed and focused on yourself every morning. If at all possible, reserve 5 minutes for yourself in the bathroom. During this time, brush your teeth carefully every morning from now on. Concentrate fully on this activity while brushing your teeth and consciously notice the brushing of your teeth. With this ritual you can make yourself a few minutes every day. Very important for a good start to the day.

Give the little morning grouch a lot of time

If your children are very cranky in the morning, i.e. really grumpy in the morning, you should give them plenty of time to wake up. For example, our children are allowed to watch TV in the morning (even if I’m not really a TV fan) for 15-20 minutes in their pajamas. This has several advantages: The little ones wake up very slowly and we adults can prepare breakfast undisturbed.

Create a to-do list the evening before

Always make a little to-do list in the evening for the next day. So you don’t have to panic in the morning about what you have to do today. Because what’s on the list you don’t need to keep in mind like getting the best fish tanks here and just relax watching fish swim. This helps you a lot to start the day relaxed.

In the evening, prepare your clothes and rucksacks for the next day

It’s actually quite simple, but we don’t always stick to it. For a relaxed morning and a few minutes more time, you should lay out your clothes for the next day the evening before. You can also pack your sports bag, rucksack, satchel, etc. in the evening. In the morning only the sandwiches are added.

Stay calm even when time is running out

The morning with children cannot be planned. Even with the best time management and lots of time buffers, you quickly break a sweat. There really only one thing helps: stay calm, even when time is running out! Because if you get nervous quickly at such moments, you pass it on to your children.

The result: Most of the time, you progress even more slowly and become more and more nervous – a classic downward spiral. Sure, there are certainly jobs where you can’t be late too often, but especially in companies with flexitime, the minute really doesn’t matter!

Use the commute to work as your first break

Enjoy the (rest of) commute without your children. Use this time for yourself and consciously try to lower your stress level. For example, you can listen to your favorite music in the car and sing along loudly, read a good book on the subway or relax with a simple breathing exercise, autogenic training or other methods. Just do what is good for you. This is how you manage to arrive at work calmer and more balanced.
