What People Are Saying About Indiana Access

What People Are Saying About Indiana Access

Look at my face and remember the sound of my voice. I'm Kathleen Sims, and I'm proud to be a consumer advocate for Indiana Access.

Kathleen Sims, Consumer Advocate

Our neediest families often face the greatest difficulties in accessing health care. The strength of a community depends on its members receiving the earliest possible care. A community that breaks down these barriers reaps the rewards of healthier families. Wishard providers are pleased to participate in the Indiana Access initiative to provide barrier-free health care.

Marilyn Graham, MD, Chief, OB/Gyn Services
Wishard Health Services & Initial Principal Investigator, Indiana Access

When every moment counts, Indiana Access represents accountability and a unique opportunity to ensure community empowerment in our efforts to reduce infant mortality. When it comes to addressing perinatal health, Indiana Access is a pivotal force in advancing consumer and provider communication regarding access, utilization, and patient satisfaction.

Virginia A. Caine, MD, Director, Marion County Health Department

Indiana Access fosters awareness among providers that patients must be treated with respect, compassion and dignity to improve patient access and satisfaction—as well as motivating and encouraging expectant mothers to adopt healthier lifestyles for better pregnancy outcomes.

Booker Thomas, Chief Executive Officer, HealthNet

To identify underlying barriers to health care among our most vulnerable families, a collaborative effort between health care systems and our community is critical. This partnership represents a cultural evolution—one in which we succeed in improving community health only by respecting the uniqueness of those we serve. Indiana Access is leading the journey by removing barriers to health care. Clarian Health Partners is proud to be a founding partner of this important initiative.

Kathy Mathena, Former Administrative Director
Women's & Community Children's Services, Clarian Health

Indiana Access fosters community awareness of the need to honor women, children and families with dignity, respect and compassion. It's humbling to realize that care providers need patients as much as patients need care providers. These partnerships can raise us all to a higher level of functioning and create the potential for genuine change.

Patricia (Peppy) Peterson, RN, BSN, Manager of Prenatal
Care Coordination & Healthy Families, Wishard Health Services

Working hard to meet its challenges, Indianapolis currently serves as a national example of what can be done when diverse individuals from various backgrounds work together. Through the Indianapolis Consortium for Healthy Babies, the black infant mortality rate has been reduced by half. This success was due to a concerted, sustained community-based effort. Indiana Access can build on that success.

Joanne Martin, DrPH, MS, RN, Coalition Co-Chair,
Indiana University School of Nursing

The Chiles Center, along with a panel of maternal and child health experts and quality service advisors, conceptualized the Friendly AccessSM program as a 20-year-change process that would ultimately reshape health care delivery for mothers, infants and children. Indiana Access provides us with a groundbreaking opportunity that is accompanied by a great responsibility to document, evaluate and share our successes and lessons learned with others in the state and around the country.

Larry Humbert, MSSW, PG DIP, Director, Indiana Access

We selected Indianapolis for its demonstrated commitment to the initiative, for pioneering early concepts and for assisting in the development of the model. Representatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) were impressed by the resources IPN and the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County devoted to the project.

Dee Jeffers, MPH, National Program Director
